Track & Bracket Rules


General Rules


GR-1.    NHRA rules are the basic and minimum standard for safety and competition. CFMP track and class rules compliment these, and in some cases, supersede.  See the current NHRA rulebook and direct any questions to a track official. We strive to promote fair competition & the enjoyment of Drag Racing.


GR-2.    No fighting, vandalism, filthy language or theft.  Any action or behavior deemed detrimental by CFMP towards CFMP will result in disciplinary action and/or suspension.


GR-3.  No selling or soliciting on the grounds without permission of management. 


GR-4.    Dispose of litter in designated barrels.  Waste oil should be put in totes provided for this purpose.  Trash bags are available at the ET Booth. Please help keep the grounds clean. 


GR-5.    Keep water faucet areas clean for everyone’s use.  No car washing please!  Turn off water faucets when not in use.  Please make sure your car is dry before returning to the racing surface.


GR-6.    Curfew will start 30 minutes after the conclusion of racing.  There will be no loud noise such as engines or parties and all motorized pit traffic shall cease.


GR-7.    Pit Parking - CFR has a number of reserved pit parking spaces.  On Friday nights anyone may use those spaces if the renter is not using it and there is not a cone in the space.  


Competition Rules:


CR-1.    As a courtesy to all the drivers, please get to staging lanes promptly when called, only one PA call is required. Drivers competing in more than one (1) class must be ready to race when called to the lanes.


CR-2.    If you have no dial-in on your car, you will be dialed the same as your opponent. Exception may be made at the sole discretion of the tower, based on circumstances.  Their decision shall be final. 


CR-3.    Do not stage until the main scoreboard indicates your correct dial-in. All drivers, by staging their vehicles, will automatically indicate to the tower that they accept their dial-in on the display board.  Please check to see it is correct before you stage!  Re-runs WILL NOT be granted for an incorrect dial-in, if in doubt, ask the starter to verify your dial-in before you pre-stage.


CR-4.    Your dial-in must be displayed before crossing the dial-in line. The Dial-in line is the head of staging. 


CR-5.    The pairings are determined by the staging director in the staging lanes.  The director's pairings are final: you will race whom you are paired with or lose the round by forfeit. The director will use a random drawing system to determine these pairings and lane choice. An example is: Pro ET has staged into 4 designated lanes. Four markers, representing these four lanes are pulled at random.  The first marker pulled determines not only the first vehicle of the pair, but also who has lane choice.  The marker is then remixed, and a second draw for the opponent is done.  It may come from any of the four lanes, i.e. markers.  These two drawn drivers are now a competition pairing, and will remain together until a winner is determined.


CR-6.  In the event cars have been paired up and called to start and one fails to fire, the non-offending competitor will have the option to accept the race as a break single pass.


CR-7.    The break line is the line at the head of staging.  A race begins when a pair of vehicles are called to cross the break line onto the track surface.  In any event, cars that have been paired will NOT be re-paired due to a break. In all cases, good sportsmanship by giving the failed car a chance to make the round will be accommodated.  Track officials will make every effort to determine winners on the racetrack by competition, not by disqualification. See also rule CR6.


CR-8.    If a vehicle has problems after crossing the break line it will be given 1 minute to re-start or correct. Actual time allowed will be at the discretion of the starter, and based on the situation at hand.  The starter shall have total discretion of the time allotted to stage a pair of vehicles and activate the tree.  His decision will be final. 


CR-9.    Auto-start will be used in all classes except Novice Junior. Movement of a “staged” vehicle after the tree is armed, will result in a red-light foul, even though it may occur before the tree counts-down.  Also called a “shallow-stage red” it is not grounds for protest or re-run.  Consult the Race Director with questions on the Auto-Start system.


CR-10.  A vehicle must leave the starting line forward, under its own power, to be eligible for a win.


CR-11.  You cannot enter two drivers in one vehicle in any CFMP point’s class, or in one bracket class.  You may not switch drivers once eliminations have begun. You must finish eliminations with the vehicle you started with. 


CR-12.  One driver can have more than one vehicle in the same point’s bracket class.  You may enter more than one point’s class with the same vehicle as long as the entry conforms to the tech rules of each class when it is presented in the lanes.  Delay boxes must be removed from the car in all no-box classes. The driver is responsible for being on time for the appropriate bracket.


CR-13.  Buy-backs - Drivers that do not win the first round will be allowed to buy back into competition.  All buy back entries racer each other in the 2nd round with winners going on to the 3rd round.   If there is an odd number of buy backs, the last car will run a first round winner. 


Race Procedures:


RP-1.    At CFMP tow vehicles are permitted with vehicles running faster than 11.49 and all bikes and Jr Dragsters. A driver must stay with the tow vehicle. See NHRA rulebook General Regulations.


RP-2.    No burnouts in the staging lanes, or pit areas.  No stationary burnouts - except in the water box.  Power burnouts across the line are not allowed unless; a. directed by a track official, b. open wheel cars, c. cars faster than 10:00.  No backing up on the starting apron without permission from a track official.  However, one (1) backup is allowed to all competitors, for the purpose of repositioning their vehicle on the starting pad.  BACKING IN to a staged position is strictly prohibited!!!


RP-3.    Stay with your vehicle in the staging lanes.


RP-4.    In case of vehicle malfunction - please move your vehicle off the lane of rubber and next to the guardrail. An oil down costs us lots of time and money. 


RP-5.    In money rounds - when a driver breaks after having won the round, and can’t make the next round - he will be paid the next round loser pay.



RP-6.    In the unlikely event of a re-run, the re-run competitors will not be allowed to change their dial-ins or lane choice.  Failure to re-run is an automatic disqualification.  If both competitors withdraw from a re-run, any payout will revert to the prior round. 


RP-7.    Bye runs will be given at random for first round of competition, for following rounds the bye will be given to the fastest R/T of the previous round.   On a solo pass, a driver who has the ‘bye’ need only to break the beams to receive a win.  A bye is considered “given” and/or ‘used’ if that driver was not paired in the staging lanes or if that driver was paired and made a single run due to competitor forfeit.  A driver who has the bye, races a competitor and wins, will carry the bye to the next round.  Whether by a break single or receiving a solo run, that driver will not be eligible for a second bye until all remaining competitors have also had a bye or solo pass.


RP-8.    Please retain your time ticket for the last round you ran, you may need it for verification.  Payout window closes 10 minutes after the completion of the race.


RP-9.    Any payout not picked up will be held until the next race.  After that, any amounts under $25 will be kept - any amounts $25 and over will be mailed by check. 


RP-10.  If the official time or race results need to be checked, please check with the race director for the event. CFMP reserves the right to confirm or overturn a race result based on recorded video or official eyewitness account.


RP-11.   All protests and appeals must be made through the race director.  Filing a protest during an event does not disqualify any entry until that entry is proven to be illegal by CFMP or NHRA officials.  NHRA rulebook procedures will be followed in all cases of protest, and in all instances no other entries will be reinstated based on the outcome of said protest. The “break rule” is not practiced in any class within NHRA. 


RP-12.   During competition events, time runs are made by class, when called by the announcer.  Extra time runs are not allowed unless specifically approved by the race director.  Exceptions may be made by the race director.  The race director may grant one time run in such cases, provided a hardship exists, and it is before the start of all eliminations.



NOTICE: It is the responsibility of the participant, not NHRA or any track representative, to ensure that all safety equipment is approved and is correctly installed, worn, maintained, and used. 


S-1.   Reckless, careless or intoxicated driving is NOT allowed.  Don’t allow unlicensed drivers to operate motor vehicles.  NO alcoholic beverages will be allowed in the staging lanes.  NO driver may consume if he/she is still involved in competition.  Intoxication, possession or use of illegal drugs may result in suspension of racing privileges.


S-2.     All vehicles must pass tech inspection before making any runs.  A vehicle may be re-examined by tech or track officials at any time, for any reason.  Random inspections of vehicles will be conducted during the event.  If chosen, you must report to the tech inspector without delay.  You may NOT “pit” first. 


S-3.    You must wear an approved (Snell SN 2010) helmet to go 13:99 or quicker. No passengers faster than 14:00 or during eliminations.


S-4.    All motorcycle riders and open wheel drivers must have a helmet visor lowered in place when leaving the starting line.  Failure to have the visor lowered will result in disqualification as determined by race director.


S-5.    Speed limit in the pits is 10 mph, speed limit on the return road is 15 mph. Speed limits will be enforced as follows:  first offense will be a verbal warning, second offense will be a disqualification from the racing event.



S-6.    No children under the age of 14 are allowed in the staging lanes, pre-staging or on the return road - per our insurance company!!  Children must stay in tow vehicles when in the staging lanes.


S-7.      Never refuel any vehicle while vehicle is in the staging lanes or running.  Jack stands must be used while working under a vehicle.  A competent, licensed driver must be in the vehicle and at the controls of any vehicle running while on jack stands.  See NHRA rulebook General Regulations 9:5 or Section 20.


S-8.    Willful disregard of safety by any driver, as determined by a track official, is grounds for reprimand, suspension, and/or fines. Incidents that compromise the safety of other competitors or spectators cannot be tolerated.




C-1.      If you go quicker than 9:99 quarter mile/6:49 eighth mile you must make licensing runs & purchase an NHRA license as required by NHRA rules.  Chassis Certification is mandatory on all entries 9.00 or quicker 1/4 mile or 6.00 1/8 mile and Other ET's apply by class.  See 2017 NHRA Rules General Regulation.

C-2.      All racers must have a valid state driver’s license or NHRA competition license by ET.  See NHRA rulebook for specific requirements. If you race at the Divisional or Bracket Finals you must have an NHRA license& membership.


C-3.    Keep admission tickets/receipts or race credentials with you during events. All overnight campers must purchase full event tickets or race credentials upon arrival.  A camping permit will be issued and must be displayed in full view for security.  The TICKET or RECEIPT or CREDENTIAL is your Rain check.


C-4.      Breakage policy:

a. If you break coming off the trailer and you leave the drag strip before eliminations-a full rain check will be given.

b. If you break in the water box on a time run or during eliminations - no rain check.



C-5.      Although there are no refunds if your vehicle breaks during time trials, you can substitute another vehicle and run in another bracket.  See procedure below.  You’ll need to go through tech with the new vehicle.


C-6.      To change brackets, upgrade, or substitute a vehicle:

a. Go to the tower and consult the race director for approval.

b. All questions concerning acceptable bracket changes, upgrades, or substitute vehicles must be approved by the race director.  He will give you direction on how to proceed

c. This change must be done before Rd 1 of eliminations for that class. The substitute entry may or may not get a time run.

d. Acceptable substitute vehicles must be out of competition, legal for the class and may NOT be re- entered through a buy-back. 


C-7.      Rain out policy:

 **NO rain checks will be issued or event rescheduled after the first round of eliminations is completed

 **If a rain out occurs before eliminations, only entry points will be awarded.  The event will not be made up unless it is the final point’s race of the season.

**If a rain out occurs during round one, only completed classes will be scored with round points.  Rain checks will only be issued to racers in classes that were not completed.

**If a rain out occurs after first round is completed it is a total rain out and no rain checks will be given.  All remaining money will be split to racers still in competition.  Points will be issued as round wins in classes that have completed a round(s).  





1.     All Decisions of the race director are final.

2.     All safety and tech rules published in the NHRA Rule book apply by ET class. Please consult a track official with any questions.

3.     NHRA Chassis certification is required on any entry faster than 9:00 1/4 mile or 6.00 1/8 mile. See NHRA rules.

4.     Functional tail lamp required on all entries.  Strobe or other unapproved tail lamps prohibited. Tail lamps will be checked.

5.     Timed ignition interruption devices (stutter boxes) prohibited in all classes. 

6.     Delay Boxes:  The Tachometer or any RPM function are prohibited from interaction with the delay device or its related accessories.  NHRA has a list of approved delay boxes for competition.  See current rulebook for details.

7.     Delay boxes allowed in Super Pro/Top Eliminator.  The box MUST be removed from the car in all other classes.  See the Tech Official for further clarification.

8.     Hi-rev limiters recommended in all classes.  2-steps prohibited in True Street.  A mechanical, fixed throttle stop that cannot be changed, adjusted, or over-ridden from inside the car or during a run, is OK.

9.     Data recorders that are pro-active to the operation of a vehicle are prohibited in ALL no-box classes.  Wiring from tachometer to any delay device is prohibited.  Other electronics may be prohibited by class.  If in doubt, ask.

10.   Also prohibited in all classes: Any electronic device used to determine down-track position; Any device that employs a timer, counter, or signal generator to determine down-track position; any type of line sensor for either start or finish; Any telemetry device capable of communicating vehicle data during a run, Any wheel pickup sensing devices: Any unconventional uses or applications of legal devices that would render them illegal under NHRA or CFMP rules. See General Regulations.

11.   An NHRA membership and license are required for all classes to run the Bracket Team Finals. The rules for the NHRA Bracket Final may vary from our track rules - refer to 2018 NHRA Rule Book for clarifications.

12.   All entries, faster than 9.99 1/4 mile or 5.00 1/8 mile must have approved lower containment system. (Diaper)

13.   Per NHRA Rules, vehicles running faster than 150 mph must have a functional parachute. Flagrant disregard of safety by not having an operable parachute is grounds for disciplinary action, fines, or suspension.  All drivers should deploy their parachute frequently to assure it will function properly.  Any driver exceeding posted speeds should use good judgment and deploy chutes, unless the deployment itself would create an endangering situation. See General Regulations.

14.   Computers prohibited, unless original OEM device. Certain ignition control systems are prohibited from competition. Any aftermarket ignition or engine control system that utilizes a programmable EEPROM; or is capable of activating a compensation command based on down track data; or executes a command based on input from any sensor besides a tachometer, is prohibited in all classes except Super Pro.  See General Regulations.

15.   Mirrors:  only OEM type/style mirrors, mounted in conventional fashion permitted.


Bracket Classes at Cedar Falls Motorsports Park


Super Pro (Car or Bike) 7.00-10.99 ET 1/4 mile 

1.     Trans shield meeting SFI 4.1 mandatory on all entries.

2.     NHRA approved Delay boxes permitted.  Trans scatter shield, SFI jacket, Helmet Snell 2010 or better, balancer, etc. apply  as per NHRA tech rules.  Any entry that exceeds 9.99 in ¼ or 6.39 in 1/8 must have valid NHRA Chassis Certification.

3.     Data recorders, Computers (unless OEM), and Stutter Boxes are prohibited.

4.     Trans brake, Four-wheel line-loc, automated shifter, throttle control, starting line &/ or "high side" rev limiters permitted.

5.     Ethylene Glycol anti-freeze is prohibited in all entries. Use of "water wetter" or similar coolant additive with water is allowed. 

6.     All switches and/or buttons must be standard mechanical connection type. Infrared lasers, retinal scan, fingerprint, light source, and any other non- mechanical types are prohibited.   

7.     During eliminations, the dial-in of a vehicle must be posted in plain sight, before that vehicle crosses the dial-in line.  Any attempt to conceal a dial-in MAY result in a ‘no dial’ heads-up race.  No dial can be changed or posted after the vehicle crosses the dial-in line, at the head of staging.

8.     Motorcycles: Full-face Snell M2010 or better helmets, leather jackets, leather gloves and ankle high leather boots or shoes required.  Also full leathers and eject-kill switches required on bikes faster than 11:00 ET. 


Pro ET (Car or Bike) 8.50-10.99 ET 1/4 mile

1.     Delay boxes prohibited, and MUST be removed from the car or bike.  Use of a delay box will result in disciplinary action, up to permanent suspension. Protest procedures are outlined in the current NHRA rulebook, which will be the ultimate authority in any such protest.

2.     Trans brakes and line-locks on 4 wheels are allowed.  Trans brake wiring must be visible, per NHRA rules.

3.     Tachometers with playback and shift light permitted. Printing tachometers prohibited.

4.     Shifters - mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, automated shifters, and electrical shifters are permitted.

5.     Ethylene Glycol anti-freeze is prohibited in all entries. Use of "water wetter" or similar coolant additive with water is allowed.  

6.     Use of SFI jacket, Helmet Snell 2010 or better, driver safety equipment, SFI balancer, axle retention devices, drive shaft loops, etc. apply to all classes per NHRA tech rules by ET.                 

7.     Computers (unless OEM), Data Recorders Permitted. See General Regulations.

8.     During eliminations, the dial-in of a vehicle must be posted in plain sight, before that vehicle crosses the dial-in line. Any attempt to conceal a dial-in MAY result in a ‘no dial’ heads-up race.  No dial can be changed or posted after the vehicle crosses the dial-in line, at the head of staging.

9.     Motorcycles: Full-face Snell M2010 or better helmets, leather jackets, leather gloves and ankle high leather boots or shoes required.  Also full leathers and eject-kill switches required on bikes faster than 11:00 ET. 


SPORTSMAN 12.00 & slower

  • All entries must be closed bodies cars with functional street equipment.  Motorcycles, dragsters, and sleds prohibited.

  • Delay boxes, Tran’s brakes, throttle stops, stutter boxes, and automated shifters prohibited.  Two wheel line loc only are permitted.

  • Two-step rev limiter PROHIBITED. No three or four step allowed.

  • Slicks are permitted and mufflers are optional.

  • Power adders allowed, but must conform to NHRA rules.

  • Legality of entries subject to race directors’ discretion.  That decision will be final.


Super E.T. 8.00 & slower

  • All entries must be closed bodies cars with functional street equipment.  Motorcycles and sleds permitted.

  • Delay boxes, Tran’s brakes, throttle stops, stutter boxes, and automated shifters prohibited.  Two wheel line loc only are permitted.

  • Two-step rev limiter permitted. No three or four step allowed.

  • Slicks are permitted and mufflers are optional.

  • Power adders allowed, but must conform to NHRA rules.

  • Legality of entries subject to race directors’ discretion.  That decision will be final.



1.     High School eliminator may be contested at Bracket Team Finals. Qualifying vehicles must be street-type, with mufflers and DOT tires. 12.00 ET limit.

        See True Street Class rules for technical details.

2.      No delay boxes or trans brakes allowed. As a safety consideration, all entries must be capable of running 60 MPH trap speeds.

3.     Bodied vehicles only, no dragsters or open wheel cars. 




1.     All NHRA rules in affect (see NHRA Rule Book).

2.     Maximum competition length - 1/8 mile.

3.     Staging lanes allow only the Junior Dragster drivers, all other persons under the age of 14 must be in a vehicle or out of the restricted staging lanes area.

4.     After initial burn-out, competitor may be pulled back ONE time prior to reaching the ready line. 

5.     Staging Procedure - All Junior Dragsters must stage under their own power.  If a junior accidentally goes in deep, they should raise their hand to indicate a re-stage.  Only a track official can pull them back and the driver can re-stage under their own power.  The racer will get one (1) chance to re-stage. The Novice class is allowed 2 pull-backs per NHRA rules.  This is why it is important to have an "N" on your car.

6.     The “no touch” line will be in effect for all events. This line is marked by cones, placed 10 feet from the stage beams. Once any part of the car passes the “no touch” line, crew members CANNOT touch the car. Only track officials can "pull back” an entry. In all cases, the starter’s discretion will be the final determination of any infraction.

7.     No WD-40 or similar tire dressing can be applied in the staging lanes or on paved rounds.





Any racer may join the points program at Cedar Falls Raceway.  A racer must join by the cutoff date set by the track.  A racer must be a point’s member to race at the Bracket Team Finals and to receive year end points fund monies.  Complete details on separate form or on the website. 


Zero Tolerance on Terror and Violence at CFR



To provide an orderly and fair process designed to effectively handle any and all acts, which are perceived to be or are in reality, threats or violence of a harmful, intimidating, or harassing nature.



All employees and any other person on Cedar Falls Raceway property are requested to immediately report any incident, threat or act of physical violence, intimidation or harassment of which he/she is aware.


Examples of the types of incidents contemplated in this procedure include, but are not limited to, the following:

1.  Pushing, tripping, kicking, punching, etc.

2.  Screaming, yelling, name calling, etc.

3.  Consistently rude or obnoxious behaviors which are harassing in nature and not discontinued upon appropriate request.

4.  Having access to any form of recognized weaponry on CFR property.

Upon receipt of any such report, Cedar Falls Raceway shall immediately conduct an investigation.


If, upon grounds of such investigation, it is determined by the investigators, that no grounds exist for further action, the report shall be considered closed.


If, however, the investigation reveals that grounds do in fact warrant further action, the Race Director shall present their findings and recommendations to the Track Operator.


Upon hearing the facts of the report, the Track Operator shall initiate the terms/conditions of any disciplinary action, up to and including expulsion from CFR or termination of employment.



In the event that the racer/employee disagrees with any investigation or subsequent disciplinary action, such disagreement may be handled through established grievance or dispute resolution procedures, whichever is appropriate.


These rules are not conclusive and are subject to modifications or expansion throughout the season.
